Prof. Dr. Coskun was born in Samsun, in 1970. He graduated from Samsun 19 Mayis High School in 1986. He attended and completed his medical education in Ankara University, Faculty of Medicine between 1987-2004. He became General Surgery Specialist by completing Istanbul Faculty of Medicine General Surgery Department (1995-2000) with his thesis titled “Adjustable Silicon Band Application in Morbid Obesity Treatment”.

Prof. Dr. Coskun received advanced Laparoscopic Surgery Education in Hamburg (Germany) in European Surgical Institute (1999) and Laparoscopic Adjustable Stomach Band Education in Brussels (Belgium) (2000).

During his years of specialization, he participated in advanced level Laparoscopic Surgery Education Program in European Surgical Institute in Hamburg, Germany (1999). Following his specialization, Prof. Dr. Coskun participated in “Laparoscopic Adjustable Silicone Gastric Banding” education certificate programme in Hôpital Universitaire St Pierre in Brussels, to increase his experience in Obesity Surgery and he completed it with success (2001). In 2003 he participated in and completed “Laparoscopic MID-Band” Education certificate programme.

After his specialization in general surgery, his experiences in Obesity Surgery are as follows: Over 120 national and international scientific paper: He wrote his first international paper on his first year of assistantship. His original clinical prospective-retrospective works, experimental works, case presentations and letters to the editor were published in Obesity Surgery which is considered as the best journal in the world regarding Obesity Surgery. He was referred to from high level in these studies.

Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Ohio, USA (2004): He worked with Prof. Allan Siperstein as Observer Fellow in 2004 in Cleveland Clinic Foundation (USA) Endocrine Surgery and Minimal Invasive Surgery Department.

Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass and Gastric Band Surgeries with Prof. Karl Miller (2006): Prof. Dr. Coskun participated in and successfully completed the education programme in Austria Salzburg Obesity Academy in 2006, organized by Prof. Karl Miller, one of few authors of Obesity Surgery in the world.

Prof. Dr. Coskun ‘s studies with Prof. Philip Schauer in Cleveland Clinic Bariatric Surgery and Metabolic Institute as Fellow (2007): In 2007 he worked with American Society of Bariatric Surgery (ASBS) President Prof. Philip Schauer, and with Cleveland Clinic Surgery Endoscopy Director Asst. Prof. Biphand Chand on Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass, Laparoscopic Gastric Banding (Stomach Band), Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy (Tube Stomach) and on endoscopic evaluations after surgery and invasive procedures.

Participation in Metabolic Surgery Master Class Programme (2009-2010): He participated in Metabolic Surgery (Surgical Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes) Master Class programme in Paris Frances, in 2010 and he made observations regarding the latest developments in this field.

Prof. Dr. Coskun’s works with Prof. Francesco Rubino in Weill Cornel Medical Collage Diabetes Surgical Center (2012): He performed studies in 2012 in New York Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical Collage with Prof. Dr. Francesco Rubino on Diabetes Surgery and current developments.

Prof. Dr. Coskun’s studies with Prof. Tomasz Rogula in Cleveland Clinic Bariatric Surgery and Metabolic Institute on Robotic Bariatric Surgery Education and Implementations (2014): Studies with Prof. Tomasz Rogula in Cleveland Clinic Bariatric Surgery and Metabolic Institute on Robotic Bariatric Surgery.

Work Life:
Dr. Coskun was successful in Interuniversity Council Exam and gained the title General Surgery Associate Professor. He worked as founder Assistant Professor between 2010-2015 in Bezmialem Foundation University Faculty of Medicine, Department of General Surgery. He has been continuing his work since 2016 in Sanko Foundation University Faculty of Medicine, part time as Lecturer performing academic studies and also works as an independent physician. He is an active member of International Federation for the Surgical Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO), The Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Association (BMCD).
